Join us in painting the town pink for Breast Cancer Awareness
When it comes to breast cancer, today there's more hope than ever. Precise screening and diagnostic tools make it more likely than ever that it will be caught early. New treatments are saving and improving the lives of patients. We invite you to join with Mission Hospital, Mission Cancer Services, and the Asheville Citizen-Times in Painting the Town Pink for awareness, beginning Thursday, Oct. 6.
During the entire month of October, Mission will join with other businesses and organizations throughout the community in putting up pink signs, posters and information. It's a fun celebration with a serious purpose: to remind women to get regular mammograms - and let men know that they too should ask their provider about lumps.
Learn More About Breast Cancer or the Resources Available to Breast Cancer Patients
The Mission Breast Program was just granted a three-year accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, which is a part of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. We were surveyed for 27 standards, and judged compliant in each one.
Our services specifically for breast cancer patients include:
- A multi-disciplinary team from many specialties who review a patient's case and make recommendations for the treatment plan. Those attending include surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, plastic surgeons, genetic counselors, research nurses, nutritionists, and nurse navigators.
- Two breast cancer Nurse Navigators who work individually with patients to coordinate and support their journey through treatment to recovery. They let their patient know what to expect, facilitate appointments and logistical issues, and provide encouragement and a listening ear.
- A department of Integrative Medicine to our patients and the staff members caring for them.
