NC Teratogen/FASD and Genetics Education

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASDs), which include Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, occur in individuals whose mothers drank alcohol during pregnancy.

Fullerton Genetics Center offers a Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) clinic to provide diagnostics and support for children and adults with FASDs. We also have a Fetal Alcohol Prevention education program.

There are many other things that can harm an unborn baby. If you are concerned that something in your environment may be harmful to your baby, call the Pregnancy Exposure Riskline at 800-532-6302. This is a confidential, toll-free number for North Carolina residents.

Genetic counselors answer this phone line. They take calls from the general public and healthcare providers, including physicians, who need answers about exposure risks during pregnancy.

Genetics Education Outreach
Staying up to date in the genetics field is a life-long learning process. Our staff is constantly learning, and we share that knowledge with professionals in genetics, healthcare providers, and the public. Our services include:

  • Presentations by clinical and lab-based geneticists and genetic counselors to audiences ranging from physicians, family support groups, and students of all levels
  • Interviews with local media
  • Rotations for residents, medical and genetic counseling students
  • Lectures at regional and national meetings
