The Prequel is a collaborative venture between Mission Hospital and Western North Carolina Middle Schools to provide middle school students the opportunity to explore healthcare careers. As an abbreviated version of the Mission Possible High School Internship, the program is designed to encourage students to explore healthcare careers and focus on personal wellness. One of the program goals is to sustain interest in healthcare careers and to encourage the students the expand their knowledge through the Mission Possible Internship, thus the prequel.

Specific student objectives of Mission Possible: The Prequel are:

  • Increase students' awareness of the multicultural needs of a diverse patient and employee population.
  • Promote healthy lifestyle choices by creating individual responsibility for maintaining one's own health and wellness.
  • Educate students on the educational requirements, certification and training necessary to be eligible for future healthcare positions.
  • Educate students on the skills necessary to obtain and sustain employment in the healthcare field.
  • Develop an awareness of the diverse career opportunities available in the healthcare industry.

The week-long program will be located on the campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC and will operate Monday through Friday from 9am - 2pm. A breakfast snack and lunch will be provided daily. In addition, the cost of materials will be covered by the program.
