Spring Into Wellness Camp is looking for camp counselors for the 2009 session. Our Counselors are the heart and soul of our program. Do you have what it takes?

Time Commitment:
The time committment is from June 13 - 20, 2009.
Salary:
Salary for the week is $500, paid in mid-July electronically by the UNCA system. Room & Board are provided.

Camp Counselor Role Description:
Counselors will be short-term employees of the University of North Carolina Asheville.
Job Objective:
Camp Counselors provide daily supervision, instruction, and guidance for 12-14 year olds on the camp's mission of teaching respect, responsibility, and resourcefulness with a focus on health and wellness. This includes supervision and participation in camp activities (games, swimming, educational activities, field trips, technology activities, and physical fitness), working closely with camp administrators and other instructors to ensure the camp's mission remains the central focus, and making certain the campers are learning and having fun.
Essential Job Function:
Participate and supervise campers in camp activities, be available to campers at all times while on duty, supervise daily activities (room clean-up, room check, and enforcing lights out), eating meals with campers, and serving as a positive role model for campers at all times.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Camp Counselors should have experience working with children in a camp environment, and the ability to lead and instruct groups of six children. Camp Counselors should be flexible and responsible adults, who enjoy taking an active role in a child's learning experience at camp.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Camp Counselors, working under the supervision of the camp co-directors, are responsible for the general health and well-being of six 12-14 year old campers 24 hours a day during camp. This includes driving the campers to various field trips, accompanying them during activities and meals, and escorting a camper to receive medical treatment, if needed.
Working Conditions:
This position's work environment is a typical camp setting with frequent movements to other locations on and off campus and frequently encountering mobility barriers and heavy lifting.
Work Schedule:
One-week summer camp.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a minimum of 18 years old by June 1st, 2009, and have completed one year of college. Must possess valid driver's license and be eligible to drive in the U.S.

A successful Camp Counselor will be eager to take an active role in shaping a child's future through the mission of this camp: respect, responsibility, and resourcefulness. Camp Counselors will seek to motivate, listen to, and guide campers while encouraging learning, camaraderie, and fun. Camp Counselors should practice personal health and wellness, and have an interest in a healthcare career. Preferred qualifications include one year of experience working with youth or demonstrating an interest in working with youth, and pursuing a career in the healthcare field.
