Spring Into Wellness is a camp offering rising 8th & 9th grade students a fun and engaging way to explore what it takes to have a future healthcare career.

PROGRAM FOCUS:

1. Character Development focuses on personal responsibility, goal setting, team-building and choices.
2. Healthcare Careers includes time in the computer lab learning about college options, CPR certification, learning the education tracks toward different healthcare careers, and a visit to Mission Hospitals.
3. Personal Wellness focuses on choices, including food, exercise, personal habits and more. Activity includes a trip to the grocery store to actually purchase healthy foods.

LOCATION

This overnight camp is held on the UNC Asheville campus. Students stay in the dorms. Campers are expected to stay on campus from check-in through check-out.

CAMP STAFF

Experienced camp co-directors, counselors and health professionals will supervise campers at all times.

COST

There is a $10 fee due at time of application. This fee is refundable if not selected to attend. Otherwise, this camp is free.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

• Students entering 8th and 9th grade in Fall 2009 Interest in Health and Sciences careers
• Overall C+ grade point average Good school behavioral and attendance records
• Physically capable of participating in camp activities such as hiking, ropes course, and activities associated with CPR training. Campers walk a lot at our camp! Enthusiastic recommendation from school principal, counselor and/or teacher
• Parent/Guardian permission Commitment from parent/guardian to participate in the orientation meeting and closing graduation activities
• Completion and submission of all application materials by deadlines

• Socioecomonic status
• Preference to students who live in Buncombe County
