UNC Lineberger Affiliation

The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only public comprehensive cancer center for the State and the people of North Carolina. Their mission is to reduce cancer occurrence and death in North Carolina and across the nation through research, treatment, training and outreach.

Expanded cancer care in our community
Clinical programs will be expanded by Mission's recent partnership with UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chapel Hill. Mission cancer patients will benefit from this partnership through:

  • Expanded access to cancer research discoveries and new treatments developed at UNC School of Medicine.
  • Expanded access to clinical trials through UNC research studies.
  • Enhanced telemedicine capabilities connecting your Mission care team with researchers at UNC School of Medicine to review test results and treatment plans.
  • Expanded patient navigator program, providing specially trained nurses to support patients and their loved ones as they move through the treatment process.
  • Enhanced survivorship programs through Lineberger's membership in the Lance Armstrong LIVESTRONGTM Survivorship Center of Excellence Network.

An Enduring Gift
In 2002, Emily was a 32-year-old mom and runner, recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Her battle included a half marathon and participation in clinical trials at Mission for a drug called Herceptin®. "I'm convinced that's what saved my life," says Emily. As a result of Emily's success, Herceptin® is now standard, making Emily's story part of the larger narrative belonging to all our breast cancer patients.
