Information Needed By MAMA Dispatch
- Exact location of scene
- Nature of event (MVA, fall, GSW, etc.)
- Number and weight of patients
- Local weather
- Contact radio frequency
Landing Zone Preparation
- Day and night: 100' x 100'
- Free of trees, power lines, wires, poles or obstacles
- Relatively flat
- Control bystanders in a safe area and secure animals
- Avoid the use of bright lights as the helicopter approaches to land
- May use emergency vehicles or POVs to mark corners
- May use traffic cones to mark corners
- Caution in using road flares to mark LZ
- MAMA does not require a fire truck to be on scene, but it is great if you have one there
Aircraft Safety
- Do not approach the aircraft unless instructed to by a flight crew member
- Never approach the aircraft from the rear
- If you can feel the wind from the aircraft landing, YOU ARE TOO CLOSE
- Remove hats; use chin straps on helmets. Secure loose objects, wear eye and ear protection if available.
