Fullerton Genetics Center

If you or your loved one has a genetic condition such as an inherited disorder or birth defect, you know the importance of easy access to services, lab work, and support systems. You also know you need quality care from skilled clinicians who understand the complexities of genetics.

Fullerton Genetics Center offers the only genetic services in Western North Carolina. We provide services in clinical genetics, genetics laboratory, and education and outreach programs.

In the past, you had to travel to Charlotte, Winston-Salem, or across state lines for evaluation and counseling. The vision of Dr. Olson Huff, Dr. Ellen Boyd, Bob Burgin, and others helped create Memorial Mission Hospital's clinical genetics operation in 1993. It was renamed Fullerton Genetics Center to honor the Fullerton Foundation's contributions.

Our genetics staff evaluates and counsels pediatric, prenatal, and adult patients through referrals in both outpatient and inpatient settings throughout Western North Carolina.

Our main clinical site is located in Asheville, but we have satellite locations throughout the area. We also work with Regional OB/GYN Service's high risk OB clinic.

Fullerton Genetics Center also provides a genetics education program for health care professionals, patients, and the general public to keep up with the staggering amount of new genetic information available each year. These programs include:

  • Clinical rotations for residents and medical students
  • Lectures to many different audiences
  • Presentations at regional and national meetings
