Mission's Strategic Funding Priorities
Mission Healthcare Foundation's giving priorities are aligned with the strategic goals of Mission Hospital; ensuring donations to Mission are used to support critical medical services and the healthcare needs of our region.
~Mission Children's Hospital
When serious illness strikes a child, finding a physician with the right expertise is critical. The presence of Mission Children's Hospital means that often parents don't have to travel long distances to find that special expertise. The Children's Hospital is the region's primary and only source for specialized pediatric healthcare. It continues to develop new services in response to the changing health needs of Western North Carolina's children.
~MAMA Helicopter/Trauma Services
Mountain Area Medical Airlift, better known as MAMA, serves as the region's air transport system and "flying Intensive Care Unit." With more than 20 years of safe air medical transport, these two highly-equipped helicopters serve over 10,000 square miles, covering 17 western counties in North Carolina plus areas of Tennessee, South Carolina and Georgia. Mission is the only Level II Trauma Center in the region with experienced trauma surgeons on site 24/7.
~Cancer Services/Breast Program
Mission's Cancer Services offers a knowledgeable staff and national protocols for all stages of cancer. With advanced medical technology that includes CyberKnife® radiosurgery, da Vinci® robotic surgery and PET/CT scanning, along with more than 100 doctors, nurses and therapists, patients can feel confident that the care they need is available right here in Asheville.
The possibility of having breast cancer can be overwhelming. The Breast Program offers compassionate and personalized assistance to each patient through a nurse navigator. This nurse helps to coordinate the diagnosis, treatment and recovery process individually for each woman.
~Heart Services
Mission is well-known for its comprehensive, nationally recognized heart services, including the latest diagnostic procedures, treatments and rehabilitation services. Mission Heart Services is headquartered in the Owen Heart Center, a high-tech, state-of-the-art facility that houses cardiology, catherization labs, stent placement and heart surgery suites. Mission's Heart Path® extensive rehabilitation program is also available in a convenient off-campus location. Mission recently received full accreditation as a Chest Pain Center by The Society of Chest Pain Centers. Only one percent of all hospitals in the United States have this designation. Mission is the only Western North Carolina Hospital to receive the accreditation.
~Stroke Center
The Joint Commission, the nation's premier accrediting body, has certified Mission as a Gold Level primary stroke center, a designation that means Mission has the demonstrated expertise and comprehensive services to provide fast state-of-the-art care to stroke victims. Mission cares for over 700 stroke patients annually.
~Health Professionals Continuing Education
One of the primary reasons for Mission's high level of care and quality is due to a well-educated staff of nurses and allied health professionals. These key members of the patient care team regularly attend national seminars, conferences and courses so they bring back to Mission the very latest information in diagnosis, treatment and care techniques. Funds for this education are primarily provided by charitable contributions.
~General Fund
Contributions to the General Fund help enhance the patient and patient family experience across the entire breath of services at Mission. These funds also support major initiatives of the Mission Healthcare Foundation Board of Trustees in establishing new programs at the Hospital. General funds will be allocated wherever the need is greatest or the project most urgent. They provide flexibility to the Trustees to meet unforeseen needs and opportunities.
