Endoscopy Procedures

Below is an alphabetic listing of the procedures we perform. 

24 Hour PH Probe Study
placement of a probe into the esophagus to measure acid reflux  

Brachytherapy
placement of a catheter into a portion of the pulmonary tree for radiation treatment 

Bronchoscopy
examination of the lungs and pulmonary tree 

Capsule Endoscopy
a small capsule containing a miniature camera passes through the gastrointestinal tract to evaluate small intestinal bleeding or other illnesses affecting the small intestine. 

Children's Dental Extractions and Restorations
children, or special needs patients with severe dental problems, or who are unable to cooperate for outpatient dental care, are treated under general anesthesia. 

Colonoscopy
examination of the colon (large intestine) 

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
examination of the bile and pancreatic duct systems with removal of stones and/or placement of stent (with the aid of x-ray)  

Endoscopic Ultrasound
combination of direct vision of endoscope with the penetration of ulrasound (sound waves) to provide examination of the accessible GI tract and unobstructed views of adjacent organs and structures used in the diagnosis and staging of lung cancer, esophageal, gastric, colorectal and pancreatic/biliary tumors as well as treatment 

Esophageal Dilatation
stretching or dilating a narrowed or strictured area in the esophagus  

Esophageal Motility Study
analysis of the movement and pressures within the esophagus-indications include difficult swallowing, non-cardiac chest pain, assessment of GI reflux prior to hiatal hernia repair 

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD/gastroscopy)
examination of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum 

Liver Biopsy
retrieval of liver tissue specimen through a small incision in the skin 

Paracentesis
drainage of extracellular fluid from the abdomen 

Per cutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy Tube Placement (PEG)
endoscopic placement of a feeding tube through the skin directly into the stomach  

Per cutaneous Tracheotomy
placement of tracheotomy tube utilizing an endoscope for correct positioning 

Perm/Vas Catheter Placement
placement of a catheter into a major blood vessel for hemodialysis  

Pleurx Pleural Catheter Insertion
insertion of in indwelling catheter to drain the pleural cavity  

Sigmoidoscopy
examination of the sigmoid colon (last portion)

Small Bowel Enteroscopy
examination of the small intestine 

Tenckhoff Catheter Placement
placement of a catheter into the abdominal/peritoneal space for peritoneal dialysis 

Thoracentesis
drainage of fluid from the pleural cavity 

Yag Laser/Argon Plasma Treatment
treatment of certain GI abnormalities with coagulation therapy-
indications include watermelon stomach, radiation proctitis, oozing hemorrhage, pallative tumor therapy
