Some of the keys to our success include:

  • nurse:patient ratios that allow for true patient care-1:3 in acute care and 1:4 in fast-track/non-acute
  • individualized orientation based on a person's experience, skills, and needs
  • cohesiveness with our affiliated emergency physicians

Additional Comments from Former Travelers

Although our proximity to her family gave Ginger Stayer, R.N., impetus to leave an ED that averaged over 100,000 visits per year, other factors got her to give up her traveling nurse job to join us.

"The nurse:patient ratios allow me to spend time caring for each person. In other EDs we were too busy to show much care and concern. Here we're busy but the ratios give us the time to really be with the patients."

Ann Jordison, R.N., who'd worked in EDs larger and smaller than ours, found plenty of reasons to stop traveling and stay with Mission Hospitals.

"Our department leader is wonderful and honest. She stands by what she says and there's no issue you can't take to her. The Asheville-area is a great bonus. You simply can't say you're bored living here."
