Internships at Mission
The Internship program provides individuals, typically current students the opportunity to utilize the education, knowledge and experiences acquired during their undergraduate or graduate education in a healthcare setting.
The fundamental purpose of an internship is to provide the student with practical experiences and an opportunity to enhance skills through active participation and involvement, direct exposure and engagement in a variety of functions. The student will work closely with department leadership and other staff members to prepare for a career in healthcare.
Essential Accountabilities:
1. Furthers understanding of the interdisciplinary processes involved in providing comprehensive health services
Performance Criteria:
- Becomes acquainted with the organization's history, environment, structure, governance and organizational dynamics.
- Recognizes the challenges and opportunities of a regional non profit hospital
- Gains exposure to and observes various levels of work responsibility by shadowing department director(s), manager(s) and front line staff
- Attends appropriate system meetings to gain knowledge of organizational dynamics
2. Strengthens leadership, analytical skills and develops core work and leadership competencies.
Performance Criteria:
- Observes various levels of work responsibility by shadowing department director(s), manager(s) and front line staff
- Becomes actively involved in providing necessary services to customers, patients and/or internal departments
- Observes and evaluates staff during decision making processes, policy reviews and committee meetings
- Openly asks questions, expresses ideas and provides input
3. Continually gains new knowledge and takes advantage of opportunities for personal and professional growth within healthcare.
Performance Criteria:
- Attends seminars, educational and leadership courses offered by the hospital
- Reads relevant journals and literature that foster professional development
- Establishes valuable and supportive working relationships with hospital staff
4. Successfully completes all projects and tasks as requested
Performance Criteria:
Creates written objectives and goals of the internship and works with leadership to meet them- Obtains understanding of assigned projects and works diligently to complete them in a timely and effective manner
- Conducts research and becomes familiar with current industry trends for project completion
