Six nurses from Mission Health & Hospitals have been honored as Great 100 nurses in North Carolina for excellence in nursing.
The Great 100 (http://www.great100.org/) is a grassroots peer recognition organization honoring the nursing profession in North Carolina. The organization annually acknowledges 100 North Carolina nurses who demonstrate excellence in practice and commitment to their profession, and contributes scholarships funds for registered nurse education. This year's honorees will attend a formal gala at the Joseph F. Koury Convention Center in Greensboro on October 6.
The Mission honorees are:
- Jennifer Arledge, RN, CCM, Medical Cardiology STEMI (ST segment elevation myocardial infarction) case manager in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit;
- Laurie L. Downs, RN, CCRN, BSN, a Coli Intensive Care Unit nurse manager;
- Judy M. Gamwell, RN, BSN, MSN, FNP-C, a nurse practitioner for Dr. Michael LeCroy and Ken Graf, orthopedic trauma surgeons;
- Patricia Ramsey, RN OCN, BSN, a staff RN in Radiation Therapy;
- Joy R. Steinmuss, RN, a staff nurse in the Emergency Department on the Memorial Campus; and
- Connie Wright, RN, a nurse liaison to Clinical Informatics.
"This profession is one of the most respected, most vital and one of the most challenging," said Laurie Downs, RN, of Mission Hospitals.. "Nursing is serious work and requires that we constantly do self examination and that we stay close to the heart of the profession which is true and unwavering compassion and concern for humankind."
