What does it mean to be ranked as one of America's Top 50 Orthopedic Hospitals?
It means that Mission Hospitals is one of the best hospitals in the country for Orthopedics - as ranked by U.S. News & World Report.
It means you and your family have access to some of the most advanced technology and orthopedic care being offered today.

Mission's Orthopedic Center consists of a full-service, 36-bed inpatient facility for patients undergoing major orthopedic surgery.
Most inpatient orthopedic surgery is performed in operating suites set up specifically for orthopedics.
With more than thirty specially trained surgeons and dedicated orthopedic nurses in both the operating room and the postoperative floor, Mission's inpatient Orthopedic Unit is prepared to carry out a vast array of sophisticated surgical procedures, including multiple joint replacements, complex hand surgery, and advanced sports medicine and spine surgery.
Many other orthopedic procedures are carried out at Mission's new freestanding Asheville Surgery Center via minimally invasive surgery, also called arthroscopy. Such surgery is performed through small incisions, resulting in less pain, fewer complications, faster recovery and less scarring than occurs with traditional "open incision" surgery.
When it comes to any type of specialized surgery-such as heart, brain or orthopedic surgery-patients are usually best served at hospitals that carry out large numbers of these procedures.
Mission ranks third in the nation in terms of the number of inpatient spinal surgeries performed (according to Millennium Research Group). The number of surgeries performed would be a meaningless statistic if the quality of the surgery was not also top-notch.
From October 2005 - September 2006, Mission performed:
8,564 total orthopedic surgeries
1,327 orthopedic spine surgeries
7,237 other orthopedic surgeries
The doctors and hospitals that have the best results in surgical procedures are the ones that do the highest numbers of them.
