New Board Elected Officials & Members

The Board of Directors of Mission Health System and Mission Hospital has elected new Board officers for 2009, and appointed four new Board members.

George D. Renfro, Managing General Partner of Nash Renfro Investments LP, has been elected Chair of the Board of Mission Hospital. He will serve a two-year term. The new Vice Chair is Janice W. Brumit, Community Representative. Continuing as officers are Anna S. "Candy" Shivers, Community Representative, as Secretary, and James H. "Hezzy" Miller, Retired Businessman, as Treasurer.

Newly appointed members are Robert "Bob" M. Moore, Jr., retired legal counsel for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN; Charles D. Owen, III, President of Fletcher Warehousing Company; Robert "Bob" C. Roberts, Regional Executive Vice President of First Citizens Bank & Trust Co.; and Chris R. Young, Owner and Vice President of Office Environments of Asheville.

John F.A.V. "Jack" Cecil, President of Biltmore Farms, Inc., will continue to serve on the board as Immediate Past Chair. Joseph F. Damore, Mission President and CEO, also serves on the board.

Other current board members who will continue to serve in 2009 include: K. Ray Bailey, George M. Bilbrey, Jr., MD; Richard W. Bock, MD; Edna Campos; Brian K. England, MD; Joyce F. Harrison; Darryl J. Hart; Robert S. Kline, MD; William E. "Bill" Lee; and Pamela M. Turner.

Board members who have completed their service at the end of 2008 include: Ernest E. Ferguson, Gordon L. Jones, Virginia P. Litzenberger, Richard B. Montague, and Charles E. Russell.

The Board of Directors of Mission Hospital is composed of community and business leaders who serve as volunteers without pay for three year terms, which may be renewed twice. They are selected by the serving board to set the organizational direction for Mission and to represent the diversity of the Asheville and western North Carolina community. The Mission Health System's other member hospitals, Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, Asheville Specialty Hospital and The McDowell Hospital, each have individual boards of directors. They also serve as volunteers without pay.
