Location: Memorial Campus, 4th floor, corridor A (currently on 4W and 7E due to renovation)

Patient populations: Adult, geriatric
Nurse:patient ratio: 1:4 or 1:5, or less, depending on acuity
Weekend work schedule: Expect every other weekend, also have straight weekend shifts
Shifts: Permanent; also maintain list of those wanting to change shifts
12-hr, 8-hr, flexible shifts: 12
Type of scheduling: Modified self-scheduling
Type of unit: General
Mix of patients: Renal, medical, MAHEC resident's patients; Prime Doc patients; occasional surgical or women's surgical overflow.
Patient care delivery model: Developing a team-focused delivery model along with Progressive
Care St Joseph and Adult Medicine St Joseph.
Length of orientation for nurses: 14 weeks for new graduates; 7 weeks for experienced nurses.
Unique services of the unit: Renal patients, peritoneal and hemodialysis patients. We work closely with several physician groups in the area, including Mountain Kidney Associates, Asheville Gastroenterology Associates, the Prime Docs, and the MAHEC Family Practice Residency Program.
Why staff like this unit: It is never boring! We take care of a wide variety of patients from age 18 and up. A great place to learn new skills. Orient with one designated nurse preceptor.
