Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) provides high concentrations of oxygen to damaged cells in the body. Treatment is administered in a spacious chamber. One hundred percent oxygen is delivered into the chamber where the patient can sit or lie down.
The pressure in the chamber, which is not uncomfortable for the patient, introduces oxygen through the bloodstream to parts of the body that need to heal.
We are proud of our skilled professional staff and state-of-the-art equipment in the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Department. Our registered nurses are specially trained in this field, and our HBOT chambers are among the latest technology available.
HBOT is prescribed to:
- Help wounds heal
- Help heal sores caused by diabetes
- Treat some infections
- Help the body make new blood vessels
- Preserve damaged tissue
- Rid the body of poisons such as carbon monoxide
- Remove bubbles of air or gas from the blood
HBOT may be used alone; however, it is usually used in conjunction with other treatments such as wound care, antibiotics and, if needed, surgery.
