The Wound Therapy Center provides comprehensive treatment for patients with wounds or skin problems resulting from acute or chronic conditions, including those associated with vascular disease, diabetes, insect or animal bites, burns, bone infections, and injuries.
If you have an injury, sore or burn that will not heal, your doctor may refer you to the Wound Therapy Center. Our skilled professionals will assess your problem and design a treatment program based on your medical history and the severity of your wound. The plan will be coordinated with your other medical treatments.
Wound care services include:
- Advanced wound care dressing supplies such as FDA-approved biological tissue/skin substitutes to benefit non-healing or chronic wounds. Dermagraft® and Apligraf® are skin substitutes now available at the Mission Wound Therapy Center.
- Conservative debridement - removal of dead tissue
- Electrical stimulation - to encourage new tissue growth, reduce swelling, decrease pain and increase blood flow to the affected area
- Foot care - for high risk patients (e.g., those with diabetes or vascular insufficiency) who need assistance with callous care or toenail cutting. Professional foot care is essential for these patients as a preventive measure.
- Hyperbaric oxygen therapy - delivery of 100% oxygen into the body in a pressurized chamber; this increases the oxygen supply to the bloodstream, enhancing healing
- Manual lymph drainage - a safe, effective approach to cleansing the body's tissues
- Pulsed lavage irrigation - cleansing a wound or tract with saline solution with a jet lavage
- Total contact casting - a special cast used to redistribute plantar (sole of the foot) pressure to allow wound closure
- Ultrasound - introduces deep penetrating heat using sound waves; increases the elasticity of connective tissue; decreases muscle and joint stiffness; decreases pain; increases oxygen transport to speed tissue healing
- Unna boots - multi-layered compression dressings for the leg (from knees to toes) that help to decrease swelling and allow wound closure
- Wound, ostomy and continence services - acute and rehabilitative care for people with disorders of the gastrointestinal system, genitourinary system and integumentary system
