Pediatric Rehabilitation Services is part of the Olson Huff Center for Child Development. We provide inpatient and outpatient care for children, ages birth to 18 years, who have physical, learning, and/or developmental needs. We offer specialized services in physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
Our ultimate treatment goal is that your child meets his or her full potential through hands on treatment, education, and home/community practice. We emphasize the importance of family/caregiver involvement in therapy sessions, both at the center and working with your child at home. A few of the specialty services we offer include:
- NICU intervention and follow-up: We provide referred children in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with physical, occupational, and speech therapy during their inpatient stay and follow the high risk children at four-month intervals (or more often if deemed necessary) until they are two years of age.
- NDT (Neurological Development Treatment) is a specialized treatment approach for children with neurological impairments. Intensive therapist training is required for certification.
- TAMO (Tscharnuter Akademie for Movement Organization) is a specialized therapy approach we offer for children with neurological and orthopedic movement disorders.
- SIPT (Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests) is a comprehensive, normed evaluation of sensory processing for children, ages four through eight, given only by SIPT certified therapists.
- Fast ForWord: We offer students, ages four through high school, this family of programs which incorporates computer-based training. It is designed to help them improve their understanding of language and phonemic processing.
- TES (Threshold Electrical Stimulation) is a form of electrical stimulation used to treat disuse muscle atrophy.
- Feeding Team: Our feeding team assesses children with feeding and swallowing problems and plans treatments. The team is constructed based on the child's needs and may include a speech-language pathologist, occupational therapist, developmental pediatrician, nutritionist, case manager and physical therapist.
- Pediatric Modified Barium Swallow Studies: This is a specialized procedure, done in conjunction with Radiology, to assess function of the child's swallowing mechanism and to determine risk for aspiration.
- Augmentative Communication: This means using either an alternative or supplemental method of communication (e.g. communication board, electronic device, sign language) to replace or augment verbal speech.
