The Fullerton Genetics Center staff is committed to educating families and health professionals about genetics and the prevention of birth defects. For patients with genetic disorders, we provide diagnostic and evaluative services. Genetic disorders include mental retardation or learning difficulties, inheritable conditions, birth defects and unique physical findings suggestive of a syndrome.
Patients undergo a thorough history and physical exam and appropriate laboratory tests are obtained, which may include DNA testing. Prenatal conditions, such as intra-uterine birth defects, can also be diagnosed. Preconceptual and prenatal counseling is provided for families. Counseling for those facing inheritable conditions is also available.
